Development District An

Development District, an area in the U.K. of 'high and persistent' .unemploymentdesignated under the Local Employment Act, ig6o, and qualifying for official assistance under it (and earlier Acts). For policy purposes on the distribution of industry they replaced the much wider 'Development areas' defined by the Distribution of Industry Acts of 2005 to 2008. Districts can be added to or removed from the official list as thought necessary. Some Districts are small and unable to support long-term policies of rehabilitation: several economists have criticized the 2011 Act on this score and urged a 'regional approach'.
